Interview: Black & Blunt
Perth-born and bred Micah Black and Philly Blunt make up Black & Blunt, a collaborative project aimed at pumping out music for the dance floor, picking up fans and accolades on the way. The duo have played festivals such as Breakfest, Parklife and Summadazye, with no signs of slowing down.
The pair sat down with Empire of Perth to talk bootlegs, Perth and gospel music.
Interview: Audageous
The Aston Shuffle hits Perth and Villa this Saturday as a part of their national tour ‘Won’t Get Lost’. The house electro duo feature alongside local favourites, Sun City, Jus Haus? and Audageous. Last week Empire of Perth’s Sara Mattsson met up with Audageous, alias Ben Robinson, to discuss travelling, fictional biographies and to get the low down on what DJing is all about.
Interview: Sam Perry
Perth local Sam Perry is not your average musician. Armed with only an effect pedal, loop station and his voice, he creates songs on the go and the possibilities are infinite.
Interview: Sun City
It took the boys from Sun City 12 weeks from their first gig in March to be booked for Parklife. With a bright start to their career, the duo arguably is one of Perth’s most attractive acts at the moment.
Sara Mattsson caught up with Daniel Mackey and Tobias John, to find out what these electro/indie/pop characters are really about. Here’s a look at their adventures so far, their background, influences and of course the writing process.
Daniel (Dan) and Tobias (Tobes) are dressed casually and look happy when they meet me this Tuesday night. I find out Tobes has studied the same course as the one I’m currently in the middle of, so it immediately feels like we get off on the right track. Being 23 and 22-years-old as they are, it’s rather impressive that these guys are doing what they love most in such an early stage in life — and doing it well, for that matter.
Interview: Adrian Lux
We probably just have to say ‘Teenage Crime’ and you’ll know exactly what we’re talking about. This is the kind of track that can be listened to over and over again on repeat. Swedish-born Adrian Lux became a name on everyone’s lips after taking out #6 of triple J’s ‘Hottest 100’ in 2010. He is due to tour Australia exclusively for the first time for Parklife 2011.
Interview with Tim Healey
Quick info:
Name: Tim Healey
Profession: Dj
From: Brighton, UK
Soundcloud: tim-healey
We had a minute with Dj Tim Healey, the godfather of electro house who recently released his new album Rest In Beats. We caught him a few days after his wedding, which featured a stately home in Devon, UK, church and alternative ceremonies and a festival size function 1 sound-system with dancing till dawn. A proper wedding by our meaning.
