Dj Yoda is heading to our shores on saturday and thanks to the Boomtick family we now have a few tickets to give away!
Yoda ain’t just a DJ, yo. He’s like the culture collector you always wanted to be and the exhibitor you never could be for every style of music and entertainment you can wrap your head around. Applying his ridiculously astute ear for mixing and blending 12” a capellas on top of seemingly disparate genres, DJ Yoda will take you on a tour from underground rap to TV themes, nursery rhymes, country, soul, reggae, drum ‘n bass and 80s pop – and then add in the visual element.
DJ Yoda quickly joined the ranks of genre-bending DJs like Z-Trip and 2manyDJs who both technically and creatively transformed the landscape of club culture with their ferocious mixing style that eventually became known as ‘mashup.’ Yoda began to incorporate visuals into his set until he came up with the most fully-realised vision of what club music and the greatest collection of cult footage could be. Think Count and Sinden’s ‘Beeper’ vs ‘The Big Lebowski’s beeper and you’re not even close.
It’s like DJ Yoda is taking you on a date to the movies and the club at the same time.
So what do you need to do to get your hands on the tickets?
Easy! Fill in the form below and tell us what you like the most about Empire of Perth. Winners will be notifiend Thursday 26 of January by email. Read more>

So there you go – Heatwave bites the dust.
“We regret to inform you that due to circumstances out of our control, HeatWave Perth has been cancelled. All ticket buyers will be refunded fully. MURDA-US Productions apologises to Perth for what is a great loss to us all. We thank you for all of your support, and again sincerely apologise to everyone affected.”
The day before the event it seems well, a bit short for an explaination, and it shows with the sheer level of feedback on the group’s facebook page.
It’s not with much surprise that it came to this length after poor ticket sales, D-12 not showing up for the South Australia Set and then bailing on the festival entirely, and then of course – My personal favourite – Gravity Ponds had knives thrown at them while they were on stage.
“I think this is more of a SECURITY PROBLEM actually, seeings performers are getting KNIVES wove at them while playing!!! where were the metal detectors? We continued our set no matter what… Why werent these 6 people taken away immediatly? I agree with the self control to a certain extent but when there is someone in the crowd with an actual knife someone needs to step in NOT the acts…Can u even imagine what tech9 or obie trice or ANY act would do if that were them? No artist will put up with that shit…”
So that’s it – If you had tickets hit up the crew at ticketmaster and follow any direction from the Heatwave team to get your money refunded!
On a more ironic note – Heatwave would have been on a cold, rainy stormy day if it had gone forward…

Yes, you read correct! The “Teacha” is embarking on a month long boat cruise from the United States to school Aussie’s on the true origins of the urban-street culture known in the world today as “Hip Hop”.
It was KRS-One who first argued that “rap is something we do; Hip Hop is something we live”. Appearing on the rap scene in 1986 as part of Boogie Down Productions, with the late DJ Scott La Rock, KRS made it clear that he was “the Teacha” with the release of his first hit single “South Bronx”. KRS, an acronym for “Knowledge Reigning Supreme”, is not only Hip Hop’s first true philosopher, as an emcee/rapper, he is considered the best live Hip Hop emcee of all time. With abilities covering rap, reggae, spoken word, and even classical music, KRS-One reminds you as to why you fell in love with Hip Hop.
With twenty published albums to his credit, KRS-One has literally written the most rhymes in Hip Hop’s history. From establishing Hip Hop as an international culture at the United Nations (2001), KRS-One has single-handedly held the history and original arts of Hip Hop together now for over two decades.
Multi-platinum rockers My Chemical Romance have premiered the new video for The Kids from Yesterday in Australia this week! The new single is the thematic centre piece from their latest album Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys.
“This will be the last single released from our album Danger Days, and we decided what better song to end on than our collective favorite. This song means a lot of different things to us individually and we hope it speaks to you as well,” posted guitarist Frank Iero on the bands blog a few days ago.
When working on ideas for a clip for the single, the band decided on a ‘video collage’ to illustrate the progression of the band over the past ten years. They began collating footage and stumbled upon a video by American college student Emily Eisemann that perfectly fit the bill. The band contacted her, merged their videos together and the end result can be seen here.
